Integration with Legacy PBX
Communication redefined: Communication is NOT just to connect, but to inter-connect. Many enterprises have invested a fortune in their legacy PBX telephone systems. It may not be economical to completely remove the existing infrastructure when converting to VOIP. The solution described here is specially designed for enterprises that have already deployed a legacy PBX system. This solution offers such an enterprise the opportunity to enjoy the promised advantages that the SIP-based VoIP technology provides while retaining the existing infrastructure at the same time: investment is not wasted yet new technology is imported. On new premises where the BN300 SIP Phone and the BN400 Soft Phone are to be deployed, cabling of only one single type – either Cat5 or Cat6 – is required to connect both the computers and the phones. Working seamlessly with the BN2000 IPCS, all the SIP Phones enjoy powerful features such as Call Forward, Call Transfer, Voicemail, Message Indicator, etc., to name a few. ?After the BN2000 IPCS is commissioned, any addition, removal and change of extensions would involve only a few simple steps to be performed on the Web Interface. In addition, extension numbers can be made to move along with individual BN300 SIP Phones and BN400 Soft Phones: seating plan changes will no longer require complicated re-cabling or reconfiguration of the PBX. To link up the new SIP-based VoIP network and the legacy PBX system, a bridge is required. Boro’s BN1000 Media Gateway serves as this bridge, converting TDM voice to and from VOIP. To interconnect with a legacy PBX, signaling is the key. In addition to common signaling protocols such as PRI and MFC-R2, ?Boro’s BN1000 Media Gateway is also proven to work with the China-specific SS1 standard. With the dynamic route selection feature offered by the BN2000 IPCS, a legacy telephone sitting behind the legacy PBX appears as just another extension to any BN300 SIP Phone and BN400 Soft Phone on the new VoIP network. Likewise the reverse is true. The original dial plan can be retained (e.g. prefix a 9 before calling outside the premise). Two networks, new and old, just work seamlessly together. Tele-workers become virtually in their offices regardless of where they are. Using the BN400 soft phone over a VPN connection, tele-workers can be accessed or access one another using extension numbers as if they are all in the same location. There are no need to recall multiple numbers. Not only are long distance call charges lowered, most importantly, communications between employees become more convenient and effective. Productivity is enhanced. The power of SIP Everest VoIP technology lays on its extensibility. Extra extensions can be added easily and promptly in the form of additional software licenses. New features such as Instant Messaging, Presence, and Video Conferencing can be extended easily through software upgrade to cope with the growth of the enterprise in the future. |
